We recently returned from an incredible few days in Olympia, marking the Washington Childcare center Association’s (WCCA) first annual legislative trip. Alongside fellow childcare professionals and board members, we took our mission straight to the heart of state government.

BUILDING BRIDGES AND DRIVING CHANGE

Over the course of two nights, we balanced strategic advocacy with meaningful connection. Our itinerary was packed with high-level discussions aimed at shaping the future of childcare in Washington:

Policy Conversations

We met with representatives from DCYF, state legislators, and senators to discuss the realities of the childcare industry.

Executive Outreach

We engaged with the Governor’s office to ensure childcare remains a top priority on the state's agenda.

Expert Collaboration

We consulted with stakeholders and industry experts to align our goals for the coming year.

Community Building

Beyond the meetings, our evening dinners provided a vital space to reconnect with friends and colleagues, strengthening the bond of our professional community.

LOOKING AHEAD

This trip was a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we stand together. It was an unforgettable, informative experience that laid the groundwork for years of advocacy to come.

When we speak as one,
the Capitol doesn't just hear us - they listen!

We missed those of you who couldn't make it, and we truly hope you can join us next year for our second annual trip! You won't want to miss it!

We worked with DCYF to implement a condensed checklist for annual licensing visits, ensuring a focus on safety.

We also helped ensure that Background check costs continue to be paid by the state rather than burdening providers with those costs.
